Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office announced the arrest of one individual and the seizure of a tractor-trailer with a refrigerated box carrying jicamas (a leguminous plant) that concealed more than 900 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine hidden among 369 boxes and plastic containers in a secret compartment, following an anonymous complaint that led investigators to the León Guzmán highway in the municipality of Gómez Palacio, Durango.

The investigation was under the jurisdiction of the Regional Control Prosecutor’s Office in the northern state of Durango. Criminal Investigation Agency officers positioned themselves near the highway, where they arrested Manuel “N” and seized the vehicle. The truck originated from the state of Nayarit and was destined for Tijuana, Baja California.

Mexico’s security strategy is based on four axes: addressing root causes, consolidating the National Guard, strengthening intelligence and investigation, and coordinating with federal entities.

From October 2024 through May 2026, official figures show that security forces have apprehended nearly 54,300 people for high-impact crimes, seized more than 400 tons of narcotics and nearly 30,000 firearms, and dismantled approximately 2,400 clandestine labs used for synthetic drug production. These results are said to have contributed to a 49% decrease in the daily average of intentional homicides during the first 20 months of the current administration.
